Therapies
Here at the Trauma Recovery Clinic London a number of psychological interventions may be used. The different therapies will be used for the different type of trauma suffered, the length of time since the trauma and the kind of negative responses experienced. Also the personality type etc of each client is taken in consideration.
Trauma Counselling
This is a gentle talking therapy which will allow you to express your feelings to a non-judgmental therapist who can help you reflect and reframe experiences. The counselling can also be used as an information giving process to give you knowledge and choices.
NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)
This is a powerful form of therapy that looks at how you mind is processing information and the responses you are receiving as a person. NLP has a number of wonderful and powerful techniques to remove PTSD, flashbacks, past guilt and anger from any trauma, as well as techniques to allow you to move on and experience a normal life.
Stress Management.
Experiencing a trauma can activate your stress responses and they can become hyper-active. With some careful stress management, the stress responses can return to normal levels.
CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy)
This looks at how your ‘self-talk’ is affecting your feelings and how this may affect your behaviour. This therapy helps you change a negative response and direct your mind to more positive thinking.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing)
Another powerful psychological treatment to help remove the emotional content of the trauma.
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy alongside NLP is a powerful tool to help with removing the effects of trauma. It is perfectly safe and you are always in control
Many of the above include tools that will help you overcome and remove the effects of a trauma. All therapy is taken at your pace so you feel safe, and there is no need to go over the traumas time and time again. In fact with some of the NLP techniques, there is no need for the therapist to even know what you experienced if you would rather not say (as is the case sometimes with someone who has experienced rape)
Please note that the above applies generally to adults, and children will be treated in a slightly different way. You can discuss this with your therapist prior to making any appointments.
